What is the effect of different liquids, Coca Cola and water, have on the growth of radish plants?
My hypothesis is that the radises that were watered with water would grow bigger than the radishes grown with Coca Cola.
First, I obtained all the materials. Then, I put about half an inch of soil into each planter. Afterward I put two seeds in each of the planters I put soil into. Next, I placed about another ½ inch of soil on top of the seeds. I watered one of the planters with Coca Cola and the other with water. I watered each grid in the planter with 1/16 cup of water or Coca Cola depending on which planter they were in. After I finished watering them I wrote on two wooden ice cream sticks, on one I wrote Coca Cola and on the other I wrote water. I placed each stick into it’s category of liquid, then I set the planters in the sun from about 10am, or whenever it gets hot, to around 4pm. I watered each planter every two days with 1/16 of whichever liquid they were labeled by and set them out on my porch when it was sunny. I repeated the watering process every two days for a month. I measured the height of my radishes by putting a ruler at the base of my plants and measured the entire plants length.
Week 1 - Nothing has grown yet in either section of plants.
Week 2 - Radishes that are watered with water have started to germinate and reached ½ inch the first time I measured them. By the end of the week they were 1 inch. Coca Cola radishes have not grown yet.
Week 3 - Water radishes have grown to 1 ¾ inch. By the end of the week they grew to 2 inches. 2 of the water radishes are smaller than the others, I think it’s because I overwatered them a bit at the start of my experiment. I also planted them near the sides of the planters so they don’t have as much room to grow. Coca Cola radishes have not grown yet.
Week 4 - Water radishes have reached 2 ¼ inches. By the end of the week they reached. 2 ½ inches. Coke radishes have not grown yet.
Week 5 - Water radishes have reached 3 inches. The 2 smaller ones seem to be more limp and darker than the rest of the radishes. I think I should’ve watered them a bit more. Coca Cola radishes have not grown yet.
Week 6 - Last week and the radishes have reached 3 ½ inches. The 2 smaller radishes are still ¾ inches which they have been for the past couple of weeks. Coca Cola radishes did not germinate or grow at all.
Things like uncontrolled factors, the time span I had to grow my radishes, affected my data. One of the uncontrolled factors was the temperature because I could not control how warm or cold certain areas of where the plants were, so if they were outside or inside and that area gets colder or warmer than other areas, I would not have been able to control the temperature of that area. The second uncontrolled factor was the weather because I could not control when it rained, when it got cloudy, or when it got sunny.
